Office conditions are harder on plants than most people expect — fluorescent or LED lighting is dimmer than it looks to the eye, air conditioning dries the air, and nobody is reliably around on weekends to water. Choosing the wrong plant for a given floor is the most common reason an office greening effort fizzles out within a few months, whether that floor is in Bangalore, Mumbai or Delhi NCR.
For desks and interior workstations away from windows, snake plant, ZZ plant and pothos tolerate low light and irregular watering better than almost anything else. For a bright lobby or reception area near glass, areca palm, fiddle leaf fig and monstera make a stronger visual statement and can handle more direct light. These choices hold up in most Indian office environments regardless of city.
Climate does shift things slightly. In Chennai and Hyderabad's higher heat and humidity swings, plants need more frequent health checks in peak summer. In Delhi NCR's drier winters and dust, leaf-cleaning frequency matters more than it does further south. None of this changes which plants work — it changes how often a maintenance visit needs to happen.
Watering is the most common failure point in an office setting, not light, wherever you are. A weekly or fortnightly watering schedule tied to a specific person or vendor — rather than "whoever remembers" — is the difference between plants that last years and plants that quietly die over a long weekend.
